You have your site into the search engines, but where are all the visitors? As a webmaster or site owner, you have probably received the email ads or seen advertisements of “guaranteed search engine rankings and more visitors” and so on. It sounds really good, until you see the price tag, and the rest of this article. Are there other forms of advertising and better ways to get traffic?

Good search engines can do a variety of things for a variety of people. They provide ease when the user is trying to find something online. Without search engines, the internet would not be the same. It would be much more complicated. Now, with all the hype about search engines and the visitors they can bring, “Is it possible?”

First off, any program offering a guaranteed ranking is a scam. Google’s search results are based upon PageRank and relevancy. It is an automated process. Google does not have the thousands of people needed to manually set a site’s ranking for each individual keyword. Let’s examine the term “ranking.” You site will have a many “rankings.” It will have a different ranking for every keyword in the site. For instance, if a user searches “dog tricks,” your site may come up at number seventeen. If you also offer webmaster tools and a user searches “adopting a puppy,” your site could show up as the four-hundredth site in Google’s list. How can an optimization company guarantee a certain ranking? They can not! They can guarantee a ranking (every site has a ranking), what that ranking is, no one can tell. Sure, rankings do affect how many visitors you will get through search engines, but the safest way to get those visitors is to offer something unique, have a variety of good content, and use search engine friendly URLs. Do not be fooled by those scams and fake promises. That leads us to the solution, how you can get visitors through search engines.

To get results with search engines, there are three things you must have. The first is good content. If a website is filled with a bunch of banner ads and links, it will not have a good ranking. A website needs “meat.” It needs content and a focus. Your website can cover a general topic like “Computers and Internet” (I wouldn’t recommend it) but do not try to cover everything on the planet like About.com. Second, your site needs incoming links. These links are not one’s you exchange with other companies. Exchanging links can even be harmful. Engine’s spiders can now detect those and they have next to no relevancy. If a visitor likes you site, they could add a link

to you on their site or tell their friend. Another way to gain links is submitting content, which is explained later in the article. Third, make clear what your website is about. Use your keywords (words that tell a user what your site is about) throughout your page. Although some search engines are moving away from Meta tags, you will still want to use them. Choose a descriptive title and write a good description. The keywords aren’t so important provided you use them in the content of your site.

If your site can not seem to get a high search engine ranking and you want visitors then you have two options. First, a site owner can choose to pay for visitors through something such as a Pay-Per-Click program, like Google’s AdWords. This is the safest way to go because it is guaranteed visitors through a trusted company, but it will cost you. It will cost a couple cents a click which will add up in the long run. If you choose this type of campaign, make sure you have signed up with a quality and respected company which has many places to publish your ad, like Google or Yahoo. Pay-per-click campaigns are great if you have money, but if money is an issue settle for another form of advertising.

Despite popular speculation and what advertising companies want you to think, you do not have to pay to get visitors. However, not paying could take longer to gain visitors. I would call it “free advertising for a particular service.” Visitors can come through submissions to other sites. If you have a particular talent, like building websites or writing, you can get visitors. Let’s use a talent for website designing as an example. You can build website templates (a webpage that has a preset design, which a site owner just adds content too) and submit them to free template sites. These sites will display your product but along with it they will display your link. Many free template sites accept submissions and I have seen traffic jump dramatically in as little as two days. If you can write articles, you can submit them to E-zine (online magazines) directories where E-zine publishers look for articles to publish. There are hundreds of categories to write about and there is more than likely a category for everyone. The E-zine will publish the author info and your site’s URL which in itself is a free advertisement.

Follow these guidelines, and you are on your way to gaining high-quality visitors to the site you own.

Almost anyone who has tried submitting to free-for-all sites will say that they are no longer worth the effort as a traffic generating tool. Automated FFA submissions to “millions” of sites are also not that useful as most of these sites are only ever “visited” by automated submission scripts and not by human eyes. The only thing these auto submission tools achieve is to get your e-mail address bombarded with “confirmation” e-mail from the FFA page owners. Many unsuspecting users who submitted their personal e-mail address to these submission tools have suffered incredible frustrations because of the “spam” they receive. (Technically they are confirmatory e-mail that the submitters agreed to receive.)

However. one previous “victim” of confirmatory “spam” managed to turn the tables around with a very ingenious twist to the process. He basically submitted his web site using the FFA auto submission tools and agreed to get the “millions” of confirmatory email…but submitted an e-mail address that led to an autoresponder that replied back to these emails with a “thank you for your offer which I’m considering…please have a look at my web site in the meantime” type e-mail.

Incidentally, Outlook Express also has message rule function which we can use to achieve a similar effect. This is good because some autoresponder services do not allow their e-mail

addresses to be submitted to FFA sites (do so at your own risk!). Simply click on “tools”, “message rules”, “mail”, “mail rules”, “new”, “where the message is from the specified account”(the e-mail account you intend to receive confirmatory “spam” with), and “reply with message”, then specify the message you want to reply with.

Don’t forget to also freely distribute your e-mail address to multiple mailing lists, classified ads sites, and anywhere that is likely to get your address “spammed”. The best part is when bulk e-mail address harvesters pick up your e-mail address and start selling it to other “spammers”, you’ll be promoting your site to many people with absolutely no effort on your part at all!

Have fun with this one.

I-key, a Millionaire CEO from New York City is the creator of “Mscsrrr: Millionaire Secret Cash System”, (home business) program, which has helped thousands of ordinary people from all over the world to attain financial security and shining success during the past 2 yrs.

Mscsrrr Millionaire Cash System helps you to generate $1,500+/Week for life, from home or office, part time or full time. No large investment or hassles. Win $1000-$2000 free “cash”…

It is all very simple. All that matters is how many of those people who gave your website hits, have actually made a purchase.

The bottomline is, it is irrevelant if there were a million hits on your site if these million did not buy. What is more important is that if there are a mere thousand who bought something from your site in a little less than three hours and charged their credit cards along the way. If you are selling a fifty cent item, this automatically totals to five hundred dollars. That’s five hundred dollars of profit in three hours!

So what does it take to get those hits become dollars, cents and a whole lot of currencies? The following are a few basic tips.

Grab them and do not let go

Websites need a headline that will immediately capture the reader’s attention. This alone could help increase your website’s hits by more than a thousand percent by three in the afternoon the next day. This fact is further supported by the great ad-man David Ogilvy who stated that most people read the headlines more than the body copy.

Know your readers

Creating headlines is no rocket science, but that does not mean it should be done carelessly. It is best that the headline created be based on the common frustrations people have. Usually, what you could ponder on is: what keeps people awake at night? If you have a clear idea as to what makes them be the way they are, that craftily written headline could easily equal to big bucks.

Curiosity always makes a killing

People always love to find out something they believe is being withheld from them. If this shows in the body copy of your website, chances are, the reader has been reading the whole copy for as long as you get them to. This is the golden rule of psychology and is one of the most successful factors in controlling the reader’s attention and hopefully their intent to purchase proves positive as well. Usually though, it does.

The shock factor

It has been proven that people could not care less on matters they already know. Fortunately or unfortunately in this world, controversy sells. It usually helps if

you present readers with a fact that they have always considered as fiction, or vice versa. The key is to shock them out of their complacent wits. Readers will increase, so would your hits. It is a guarantee.

Get them to be involved

Scientifically, the attention of people is ruled by three factors: the visual mode, what one usually sees; the auditory, what one usually hears; and kinesthetic, what one actually understands or absorbs either by touching, holding or being actually involved in the process.

Therefore, it is best to involve the three. Let your site be a multi media experience that involves the senses. It would be an unforgettable sight, sound and experience for the reader and most importantly for you as well.

Font it up

It is important that you make the extra effort to get readers to take a look at your site. After this, it is best to pray that they may be, at least, be beholden by the Tahoma’s, Arials, Courier’s or Verdana’s of your copy. It would not hurt to bold the headlines up. You also have the option to italicize remarks. Donot forget to highlight the essentials or anything that could make readers see what you are up to.

Putting tables on your copy could help make your site appear more neat and a lot easy to read. That is, only if the tables are a necessary part of your copy or whatever it is that would make them purchase.

Color it up

Colors are a great way to attract potential readers to your site. Do not forget to at least add some powerful reds or peaceful blues, or some lively orange. It all depends on what specific mood your site wants to project.

It is best to apply a color scheme so that your site will have an appeal that is all its own. Plus, it is a lot easier to look at and more comfortable to do so, at least for the eyes.

I admit it, I have a problem. I’m a control freak and I like to do things myself because “I’ll do it right and save money at the same time”.

This philosophy has gotten me in trouble more than once. Most recently, I broke my blog. Because I knew enough to know that I didn’t know how to set up a blog, I paid somebody to do it all for me. At the same time, I know enough about web programming to be dangerous and figured that I would take over once it was up and running. Consequently, I really messed things up for a few days.

This was a great lesson to me on why I pay people to do things that I shouldn’t be doing. I don’t paint bedrooms (and my wife is much happier for that), I don’t change my oil (tried and failed) and I don’t mess with plumbing. But like so many other people I still find myself trying to do things myself in order to save a few bucks. In the end, it usually costs more–either in insufficient time management or having to fix what I broke–than it would have if I had simply paid somebody with experience to do it right.

The same standards can and should be applied to online marketing. I run across many people who still like to take care of these things in-house. I certainly understand the motivation for doing so, saving money and all that, but what about the time factor? What about ensuring it’s done correctly. What about keeping up with trends and industry changes?

Doing your search engine optimization

and marketing in-house will often times produce poorer quality results and use up more valuable man-hours than simply paying a professional in the first place. Even if you were to hire a full-time SEO to work in-house there are so many levels of experience that are necessary to make any optimization campaign successful. If you rely on only one person to do all that you’ll still be shorting yourself some necessary components that make a campaign successful.

There is a reason that the cliché “you get what you pay for” is so often repeated. Because more times than not, it turns out to be true. So the next time you think you’re going to save money by getting it for “free”, weigh the cost vs. benefits for the long-term. Are you certain that the job will be done right? Do you have the knowledge to ensure success? Are you really going to be saving any money, or will you end up losing more than you’re “saving”.

These are all valuable questions to consider, and if you do you’ll be better armed to make the right decision for your situation. Afterall, any marketing job done right is an investment to your future success.

Craigslist has to much flagging. You cant itch your bottom with out someone messing with your ads. The community flagging is a joke. Let us give Craig a chance to annwer this question. You have money to stop spam. So please gigure that out.

Postpinky has no community flagging. NICE! You can post unlimited ads. Ad up to 50 pictures and even ad video to your site. All ads are free. Very good site.Postpinky also offer a platinum program. Goto www.postpinky.com/dealer to read about it. and further postpinky needs to ad

html to the descriptions

Kijiji is a craigslist sister site. very nice site. But hey, ad HTML to the descriptions. So maybe your a step sister site of Craigslist. Captcha codes suck. So create a spam filter.

Oodle is a very sneeky site. The oodlebot as they call it is always crwling the internet for Classified ads. You guys are getting huge. Even though Craigslist has busted out the guns on you. You know what that really means. The guys at Craigslist are worried.

The best news is I use all these classified sites. I have used Craigslist for years. It is the best of the best. we love you. Keep up the good work.

To the rest of you, keep trying. I think craigslist has the edge! (For now)

DMOZ is known all over the internet as being the largest open source directory online, but is it really worth your time and effort to try to get your website listed in their directory?

You must remember when submitting your website to DMOZ that this directory is one of the human powered directories which means that a person must go over your submission, your website, and determine if your website is worthy of being in the directory from their own standpoint of view. All of the editors at DMOZ are volunteers just like you and me that have applied to become editors and reviewers in their special field of interest.

It does not cost to have your site listed in DMOZ, so that is a plus, but they do have certain standards that they expect but once again the volunteers are just people and they must also stick to these high standards to ensure that DMOZ keeps its high regard for submissions.

DMOZ wants to achieve a high quality, content rich resource in which the general public will consider useful and indispensable. DMOZ expects their editors and reviewers to keep this high standard and only allow websites with original, unique and valuable informational content that contributes something unique to the category’s subject. So, before you submit your website go over this check list to ensure you have the type of website they include and then remember the rest is up to the editors and reviewers.

1. Do not submit websites that have identical content but have different URL’s.

2. Do not submit websites that have similar content to another website you already

have listed in DMOZ.

3. Do not submit your URL with each page as a separate submission.

4. Do not submit websites that have pages that are not working properly, are under construction, have broken graphics, or broken links, or are redirecting to another website.

5. Do not submit websites with illegal content such as child pornography, libel, fraud, or violence.

6. Do not submit websites that are just a bunch of links to affiliate programs.

None of this will ensure your inclusion into the DMOZ directory but it will help. The wait to get into DMOZ can be a very long wait if indeed you are ever included.

I would not submit to DMOZ and then wait around for something magical to happen. DMOZ is not the only directory out there. I would submit and then forget about it. Submit to all the directories you can and do not worry if DMOZ does not include your website. I believe having your website listed in the major search engines is much more important than a link back from DMOZ. It would be nice to find your website in the DMOZ directory, but you are relying on the integrity of the volunteer editors and reviewers which have their own opinions as to what makes up a quality website. If your website meets the criteria of DMOZ and you do in fact get an editor that agrees with these standards then you will be lucky enough to have your website included.

E-commerce is a cut throat business. You have to arm yourself with the proper know-how and the tools to make your site just that bit more interesting and informative. Each day, more and more sites are clambering to optimise in their website rankings and if you lose your guard, you may just get trampled on and be left out in the cold like so many other failed e-commerce sites.

Search Engine Optimisation or SEO is a term widely used today by many e-commerce sites. Since the beginning of the internet, search engines have been the most widely used internet tool to find the product, service or information required.

Most people that use search engines use only the ten top search results in the first page. Making it to the first page, more so to the top three is the peak of a sites success in search engine optimisation. You are much more likely to be clicked on when you rank high. The more traffic for your site, the more business you rake in.

But, it is essential to grab a hold of that spot or make your ranking even better. To repeat, each day is a new day for all e-commerce sites to make themselves rank higher using search engine optimisation. It is imperative to make your site better and better everyday.

So just what is search engine optimisation and do you have to use it? The answer to why you have to use it is an easy one. You need search engine optimisation to be number one, or maybe at least make your site income generating.

With search engine optimisation you can get the benefit of generating a high traffic volume. Let’s just say you get only a turn out of successful sales with 10 to 20 percent of your traffic. If you get a hundred hits or more a day, you get a good turn out of sales already. If you get

only ten or so hits a day, you may only get one or two if not any at all.

So once again, what is search engine optimisation? Search engine optimisation is utilising tools and methods in making your site top ranking in the results of search engines. Getting yourself on the first page and better yet in the top half of the page will ensure that your site will generate public awareness of your site’s existence and subsequently generate more traffic, traffic that could lead to potential income and business.

Search engine optimisation requires a lot of work to be fully realised. There are many aspects you may have to change in your site or add as well to get search engine optimisation. These will include getting lots of information about the keyword phrases that are popular with regards to your sites subject or theme. There is a great deal of exploration needed in choosing the right keywords and phrases, but don’t let that put you off, SEO is a series of processes that can be easily learnt. These processes are applied both on and off the actual page

You may also need to rewrite your sites content so that you get the right keyword phrases in your site content without making it too commercial but light and informative. There are certain rules and guidelines to be followed with making your site’s content applicable and conducive to search engine optimisation.

Try to gather as much information, tips, guides and tutorials on SEO as possible. The link below will give you much of what you need to know and how to do it. The more knowledge and information you gather the better. This will all help you in getting those high rankings. This may require a little time and effort in your part but the benefits will be astounding. All of these will result in better traffic and more business for your site and company.
